Control accounts are misunderstood, but there is nothing wrong with naming any account with the term 'Control'. A 'VAT Control' is a great example. You can use a single account to record both the input and output tax. Whatever the balance is is how much you owe (or are owed). This is an example of a control account that does not connect to a separate ledger.

Hi,
Firstly thanks for your podcast, I find them very useful.

I buy some products from Amazon.co.uk and pay in Sterling, however when they invoice me their VAT No is an Irish VAT number IE**********. Do I claim this VAT back from the Irish Revenue?

If so, should I just convert the purchase from sterling amount to euros and use this as my VAT amount.

Many thanks
Anthony

Hi Nilsson

Very good, well presented, interesting and informative. My omnly suggestion would be to have smaller podcasts, say per topic. I like where you're going!
